MEET OUR TEAM

Dr Tom van Hagen BSc, MBBS, FRACPMedical Oncologist

Born and raised on a little known island in England (Hayling Island), I moved to London to train in medicine at the Royal Free Hospital and after working for 3 years in London, emigrated to Perth in 1998.
I have been training in oncology since 2002 and became a consultant in 2008. In 2009 I completed a fellowship in melanoma and gynaecological cancers at The Royal Marsden Hospital, London. Since then, I have worked as a Medical Oncologist at Royal Perth Hospital until the department’s closure in February 2015 and now continue to work at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. Although I treat all cancer types, my speciality areas of interest include melanoma (Consultant for the WA Kirkbride Melanoma Advisory Service), upper gastrointestinal, colorectal (Consultant for SJOG Colorectal Multi-disciplinary Team) and head and neck cancers.

Away from work, my main goal in life is to spend as much time as possible with my beautiful family (my wife Naomi and daughters Ella and Abby), living (and loving) life, and travelling as much as possible to explore this huge, fascinating and exciting planet. I encourage all my patients to do the same!

RebeccaPractice Secretary

Rebecca is our Practice Secretary who is the friendly face greeting you when you come into our rooms or on the phone. Rebecca also helps to manage clinics and all your bookings with Ivy Suite, radiology and keep you updated.

MikaylaClinical Assistant

Mikayla is our Clinical Assistant that helps manage continuity of care and correspondence between hospital admissions, appointments with Tom and other specialists and your primary care team (GP, Community Pharmacy etc). Mikayla is also our resident ‘green thumb’ keeping all our beautiful plants alive in the rooms!

Naomi van HagenPractice Manager

As you may have guessed, I am Tom’s lucky wife, and now Practice Manager of our rooms.

I am also a Clinical Pharmacist, working for many years in the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre Pharmacy and running Hope Cancer Care Products, a website for advice and products to help manage cancer treatment related side effects.

Around work commitments, I like to keep fit and healthy, enjoying the gym and walking our gentle giant, Katniss the leonberger. I am also constantly planning our next holiday. In such a stressful industry, I think it is so important for our family to have regular breaks in order for Tom to recharge and continue to provide the best care for his patients.

Dr Ru-Wen Teh MBBS, FRACPMedical Oncologist

I am a Medical Oncologist who currently works at Royal Perth Hospital. I graduated from University of Western Australia in 2004 and completed my training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital. I spent a year in Sydney working at St Vincent’s Hospital. I previously worked at St John of God Subiaco until I had my third child! Now, I mainly provide a locum service for Dr van Hagen. My interests in oncology are breast and colorectal oncology.

I have three young children and when I am not working, I spend most of my time trying to organise their busy social life! Ok, maybe I also spend some time online shopping.

Tom’s rooms are based in the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre (BFCCC), a centre for excellence in cancer care. Various services are available in the BFCCC including Pathology, Pharmacy and the Ivy Suite – a specialist unit for treatment as a day patient. The oncology specialist ward (ward 35) is also located on level 3 of the BFCCC.
